Underground People Mover to be built at Central Vista Project, Republic Day parade of 2022 at new Rajpath

Under the Central Vista Project, an underground ‘People Mover’ will be arranged for central personnel to reach their offices. It will also be connected to the existing metro stations. Talking about overland transport, other buses including electric will also run for tourists and visitors. The people mover is a type of small transit system in which only a limited number of people are allowed to travel in a certain area such as theme parks, airport terminals etc.

Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Durga Shankar Mishra informed Indian Express that Vista will have an underground people mover which will be directly connected to the two metro stations. It will connect all the Common Central Secretariat Buildings, the Conference Center and the National Archive. Officials and public who have to go to central government offices will be able to go through it. Apart from this, the Rajpath redevelopment project is also started. The government plans to hold the 2022 Republic Parade at the new Rajpath. Let us tell you that 75 years of Indian independence are being completed in the year 2022.

Offices of Ministries will be temporarily shifted

The central government will temporarily shift the offices of some ministries to another location under the Central Vista project. For this, four locations have been identified near Gol Market, KG Marg near Africa Avenue and Talkatora Stadium in central Delhi. The offices of the ministries will be shifted to the new Central Secretariat Building.

Expenditure on Central Vista will be less than expected

The central government said a day ago that the expenditure incurred under the Central Vista project would be less than what was estimated. According to Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Puri, many ministries will bear the cost of this project from their budget.

The Internal Heritage Conservation Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs gave its approval for the creation of a new parliament a day earlier. Puri said that the democratic government has to take a decision on the new parliament and the present government has taken this decision. Earlier, the Estimate Committee had asked for it in 1985 and in 2012 also Secretary of the then Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar wrote to the Urban Development Secretary for the new Parliament.

Republic parade of 2022 on new Rajpath

The central government has given a contract to Shapoor Pallonji and Company Limited for the Rajpath redevelopment project. The project is worth Rs 477 crore and will be completed by 2025. According to Mishra, the 2020 Republic Parade will take place on the new Rajpath and work on it will begin after this year’s Republic Day. The lowest bid was submitted by Shapoor Palonji for this contract, which was 4.99 percent less than the estimated cost.
